About GodstarNic Dalton decided to form Godstar one day on the beach in early '91. At that time they were Nic on guitar and vocals, Tom Morgan on bass, Alison Galloway on drums and John E on guitar. They recorded a few songs, and after about 6 months Nic realised that Tom and Al worked well together and suggested they form their own band, and so they did, naming it Smudge. Tom and Alison continued to play in Godstar but John soon left and was replaced by Robyn St. Clare. Their first EP, The Brightest Star, was released in 1992. This EP was soon followed by another, The Chemcraze EP came out in 1993. While touring with the Lemonheads, Nic recorded the first full length Godstar album, Sleeper, in various different studios around the world. Godstar toured around Australia in 1993, and a few EPs were recorded. The September album was also recorded around this time, but like many recordings, it slipped away for a long time. Godstar: Robyn, Tom, Alison, and Nic Around 1994 Nic was overseas a fair bit with the Lemonheads and wrote Godstar's second album Coastal which came out in 1995. Nic eventually left the Lemonheads and came back to Sydney permanently. Coastal featured many many different musicians, making it quite unique. Godstar played a fair few shows around Sydney and other parts of Australia, and released more EPs. After this tour Godstar started to fall apart, simply because they all wanted to move on to new things. They broke up in 1996, and final a compilation was put out in 1997 by the title of The Godstar Reminder - September which features tracks which were recorded in September 1993. Godstar are now gone, but will never be forgotten. |
